Xmas Holidays

Tony and Carolyn get rid of their car as their first step toward freedom -- Tynan (Tony and Carolyn's nephew), the recipient of the car, is happy. Carolyn and Tony are sobbing (ah, the price of freedom).
We were bumped to the 2:00 plane (rather the 11:00) from Toronto, so by the time we got to Vancouver, it was rush hour. Arrived in Whistler about 8:00 at night, where Tony finally fulfills his Olympic dream.
The next day, Carolyn also fulfills her Olympic dream, just by standing still and looking at the view. Eventually, she made it down the very, very (very) big hill.
This is a view of the road from Whistler to Vancouver, the "Sea-to-Sky Highway".
The pretty village of Horseshoe Bay (North Vancouver), where the ferry goes to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island.  A lovely place to wait for a ship.

After driving to Victoria (from Nanaimo) on Vancouver Island, we stayed the holiday week in Paul and Fiona's (Carolyn's cousins) apartment.  We worked in the morning and toured the area with Mark (Carolyn's brother) in the afternoon. This site is Craigdarroch Castle in Victoria -- built by a coal barron in the 1800s. Carolyn and Mark check to see if tea is being served.
Xmas light display in Butchart Gardens (in Saanich, near Victoria) -- hard to capture on film, but it was crazy and magical!

The lovely shoreline in Sooke (about 30 km west of Victoria), where Carolyn, Tony, and Mark checked out the scenery on a Sunday drive.

We are off to Australia -- leaving on Dec. 29, arriving Dec. 31 (we will not see Dec. 30, given the time warp of traveling from here to Australia). love and happy new year to all!
